The Splits

The Splits

Should I be going boldly
or do I boldly go?
Splitting my infinitive
could be a fatal blow.

It's difficult to truly
write with realism
when my native tongue is tied
lashed down by dogmatism.

Dauphy: Stick to French Hobbo, it’s much easier.

Hobbo: Easier for you maybe. Perhaps I’ll stick to Yorkshire. What do you think?

Dauphy: Fine! Fine, if you don’t want anyone to understand that is.

Hobbo: Maybe not then.

Dauphy: sotto voice Yorkshire pudding!

Hobbo: I heard that!

Dauphy: Pardon?…

  1. I showed this to Dauphy who, after googling the word is very happy that his American pal thinks he is such a hot dog! He’ll be wanting a gravy bone increase now!πŸ™‚
    …….and dogmatic, doggone clever!πŸ˜‚

  2. that is a terrific line: ‘my native tongue .. lashed down by dogmatism’ — shows the crippling effect that grammar can have on creativity — when I was teaching this was a really big issue; good poem πŸ™‚ as always love the exchanges between you and Dauphy: a good start to my day πŸ™‚

    • Thanks John, that line appeared after several re-writes. Shows the value of editing, although I like my chats with Dauphy to be a bit more spontaneous.πŸ™‚
