The Chippy Whale is in the chip shop, Enjoying a tasty cod, Sees the owner, in his flip-flops, And gives to him the nod. Not one to moan, Not his kind of thing But he's found a bone Which he thought he would bring To the boss's attention. "That's fine," says the man, "And, as it's been mentioned, You may have a free can Of pop, whilst you're waiting, We'll cook you a new." And earns five star rating On Chippies4You.
Ha ha. Sounds like you can have a whale of a time in that place!! In Australia chippies are carpenters. π

π€£π€£ Chippy is sometimes used as slang for carpenter over here, but more often it is a fish and chip shop.

Okay, now I have to ask … do you call it “pop” up there? Down here, we call it a fizzy drink, although I call it a soda.

Yes. It is definitely pop. Pop can apply to beer as well. So someone going out on the pop, would be having a night out, beer drinking! π

πOh, and where you call it soda, in France they usually call a can of soda a Schweppes!
If I said here that I was going for a few sherberts, that would mean a few beers! π

And here, weβd leave off the sherberts and just say, Weβre going for a few, which could be anything really. Weβre very into ambiguity down here. π
